NASA announces the discovery of a meteorite in the Arctic ice containing fossils that would prove extraterrestrial life, weeks before a presidential election in which the agency’s funding is the central issue.

Rachel Sexton, a White House intelligence analyst and the daughter of the candidate running against the President, is sent to verify it. She does, and then finds the one detail that should not be there.
