James arrived at Neville by applying a sixteenth-century cipher to the dedication of the Sonnets; Rubinstein, a historian, then tested the claim against Neville’s travels, his imprisonment in the Tower, and what was happening in his life when each play was written. A contribution to the authorship argument, not a settlement of it.
