Five years after graduating, the friends who called themselves the Murphys are still inseparable. In December 2008 they make their way through heavy snow to an extravagant art-world Christmas party, not knowing that the evening will divide their lives into before and after.

What follows is a novel about a group of young New Yorkers discovering what they are worth to one another once ambition, money and grief have all been introduced.
