Two novels of the Klondike, printed together. In The Call of the Wild, Buck is stolen from a comfortable Californian ranch and sold north as a sled dog, where he learns the law of club and fang and hears, more and more clearly, the wolves calling from the timber.

White Fang runs the other way: a wolf-dog born wild in the Yukon is passed from a cruel owner to a decent one, and is slowly taught that a man’s hand is not always a threat. London wrote the second book, he said, as the reverse of the first.
