A fakir leaves his village in India and arrives in Paris on a pilgrimage to IKEA, where he means to acquire the one object he covets: a brand-new bed of nails. He has no euros, but he does have a counterfeit hundred-euro note printed on one side only, and his usual repertoire of tricks.
A swindled taxi driver sets out to murder him, the fakir hides in a wardrobe, and the wardrobe is shipped to England. What follows sends him across Europe and North Africa by increasingly improbable means, and puts him in the company of people whose journeys are not chosen.
